The 2008 Festival will celebrate the year of the Rat and will take place on Sunday 10th February. This year’s Festival will attract an audience turnout of over 500,000, making it one of the most popular and largest celebrations on the Lunar New Year.
Chinese New Year Parade
This years parade starts at 11am on The Strand heads along Charing Cross Road and down Trafalgar Square before ending in Chinatown. The streets of London will come alive with an array of dragons, musicians, artists, school children and acrobats from China and across the country in the parade.
Chinese New Year Festival
The year of the Rat begins with the opening ceremony in Trafalgar Square. Featuring a superb artistic programme of Chinese entertainers from China and across the country. Be sure not to miss the dotting the eyes of the dragons, to ward off evil spirits and welcome a prosperous year for all. 12pm till 6pm.
Chinese New Year is the biggest festival of the year in Chinese communities. As it is based on the lunar and solar calendars, the date varies from late January to mid-February. Year of the Rat: people born during this Chinese astrological sign are said to be imaginative, charming, generous to loved ones, hard-working, quick-tempered and critical.
