St. Germain London Review
Book a table at St. Germain
Forget St. Germain if you are in search of a traditional French brassier to wile away an evening in. This venue is for those in need of something contemporary and chic - enter with that agenda and you won’t be disappointed with this Parisian meets New York styled establishment.
This brand new restaurant is more vibrant than romantic. The open planned layout plants American diner style tables and low-drop lighting amid a bold black and white interior. It’s very much a city restaurant, the atmosphere is busy and there is an air of efficiency about the experience of eating here. Although it’s not the most intimate of establishments, the personable and friendly service makes it a memorably special affair.
There was no faux pas about the food. The oysters made for a fantastically fresh starter and the Coq au vin was well marinated, served with a delicious garlic potato puree with bacon and shallots. My companion was as equally as enthusiastic about his onion soup followed by a rustic French classic in the shape of duck confit. The portions aren’t huge and we managed to happily end the meal with a delightful citron tarte.
The well stocked wine and extensive cocktail menu are great for accompanying dinner, lunch or even just an evening at the bar for those who aren’t looking for food to line the stomach. It isn’t a particularly cheap night out, expect to pay about £45 pp on average. Well recommended for anyone with a few pence to spare and in search of something fresh, fashionable and French.

“St Germain is truly a hidden gem. The bar is beautifully designed and the bartenders really knowledgeable. We had some really interesting cocktails but they also do the classics well. The daiquiris and martinis are especially good and worth a mention. The head bartender took really good care of us, recommending drinks and made it a really special evening. They even let us eat off of the restaurant menu in the bar. I can’t recommend St Germain enough.”
