Eclipse (Closed) London Review

Notting Hill’s Eclipse is a vibrant lounge bar serving some of the tastiest cocktails in London. This gem is guarded by a bouncer giving the impression it is a private party. The main wall is lined with a large brown sofa. The rest of the décor is a cross between modern and 70’s retro with mood lighting. It is the ideal place to come with a small group of friends or for a romantic date.

The important thing that you have to remember is to be adventurous with the drinks menu. There is no point going for a classic cocktail as you will give up a perfect opportunity to discover something new. They have such a vast in-house list of cocktails that they don’t even waste space to print anything as conventional as a Manhattan.

The staff are attentive and extremely knowledgeable about all drinks and are more than willing to give you advice. The food menu offers a selection of exotic burgers, Asian snacks as well as a range of fresh salads to compliment your beverage. You’re supplied with both cutlery and chopsticks allowing you to choose the instruments you prefer to bring the food to your mouth. The crispy duck rolls with hoisin sauce and the prawn chive dumplings with soy mirin are perfect side dishes to main course salads. Especially if it is accompanying the refreshing springtime salad - a mix of new potatoes, asparagus, broad beans and a shaving of pecorino cheese, which comes with or without king prawns. If you feel like having something more substantial you can’t go wrong with the Mexican beef burger with guacamole and chilli served in a sesame seed covered bun. But before you sample the food it’s important to clean your palette with a pre-dinner drink. One of the best available is Miller’s Bouquet made with Miller gin, fresh lime and honey served in a chilled martini glass. The music on play will follow your mood from mellow at dusk, to upbeat when the sun goes down. It’s the ideal place to spend your whole evening. Shanna Schreuder (03 05 2006)

"The bouncers in the place were proper goons. They made sure to spoil the mood before letting us in, and then were totally unnecessarily aggressive to some of the (perfectly reasonable) punters just enjoying..." Which venue is this?
