Local band Electric Dinosaur wins chance to support Scouting for Girls at O’Neill’s

Clapham band Electric Dinosaur has taken a step closer to supporting one of the biggest bands of 2008 by winning their local heat of the Tuborg Hometown Festival.

Musical talents across the UK are battling to perform at this unique festival, where they will support Scouting for Girls at an O’Neill’s pub. Scouting for Girls will be playing their top ten singles ‘She’s So Lovely’ and ‘Elvis Ain’t Dead’, as well as new releases from the number one album ‘Scouting for Girls’. They will be joined by South London four-piece The Rushes – who have just completed their own debut album – and singer/songwriter Sam Isaac.

After facing some tough competition from rival bands at O’Neill’s Clapham, Electric Dinosaur gave a powerful performance to guarantee their place at the regional final in O’Neill’s Clapham on 16th July, where they will face other winning bands from local heats across London.

A new band that formed at the start of 2008, Electric Dinosaur consists of Don Stick on guitar and vocals, Simon Hartley on guitar and backing vocals, drummer and backing vocalist Dave Simpson and Colin Codd on bass and backing vocals. They have been playing on the London circuit for more than 10 years in various bands and are all seasoned performers.

“Electric Dinosaur gave a brilliant performance on the night and were well-deserved winners. The atmosphere when they played was fantastic,” said O’Neill’s Clapham manager Willy McCormack. “We’re really pleased that Electric Dinosaur will be representing O’Neill’s Clapham at the regional final. Even if they don’t end up supporting Scouting for Girls, they can always headline here!”

The winners of the six regional heats will all perform at the national final in London on 20th August, where the champion will be chosen by industry experts. As well as opening for Scouting for Girls, the winner will receive some top musical gear courtesy of Marshall Amps and Epiphone.

In addition, O’Neill’s Clapham is competing to host the Tuborg Hometown Festival on Sunday 14th September. Every time a pint of Tuborg is purchased at O’Neill’s Clapham, a vote is cast for the pub. All votes go into an independent draw and the one pulled out will win the Tuborg Hometown Festival with Scouting for Girls performing at their local O’Neill’s.

For Scouting for Girls, the final gig will be a great opportunity to play exclusively in front of a local audience. Lead singer Roy Stride said: “Scouting For Girls love festivals and we love pubs too, so what could be a better event for us? We're really looking forward to playing this intimate gig to a pub full of our fans."

The Tuborg Hometown Festival will be the final stop on the Tuborg summer festival run after a blockbuster year sponsoring some of the UK’s largest music festivals including Download, O2 Wireless, and Global Gathering.
