The Angel Inn London Review
The Angel Inn is an old mans boozer with a modern twist (and air conditioning). It’s a lovely little pub with its cosy dark wood interiors, old lamps, fairy lights and roaring open fires, making it especially popular during the winter.
With warmth, intimacy and plenty of characters, it’s a place where the locals gather, but newcomers are made welcome too, so expect some friendly banter from the laid back staff. And you can even bring your dog, as long as it has impeccable doggy manners.
The open kitchen wafts out delicious smells that are guaranteed to tease your senses and make you hungry. There is a grand selection of tempting dishes on offer. I had fresh cod loin served on a bed of homemade mashed potatoes and red pepper sauce. My friend had chicken stuffed with smoked ham and gruyere served with mange tout, green beans, new potatoes and grilled courgettes with a red pepper sauce. We finished the meal with a plate heaped with fresh cream profiteroles drizzled with hot chocolate sauce. There are plenty of wines and beers to choose from, with a number of German and Belgian beers on draught.
Sundays are traditional at The Angel. Get the papers in, and pull up an old church pew at a big table. Or chill out and recover from the weekend by plonking yourself in a dark corner (there are plenty) and burying your head in the newspapers while waiting for the Sunday roast of your choice (pork, beef or veggie) with all the trimmings.
Imagine being curled up near the fire with a coffee or a cheeky wee hair of the dog. The Angel Inn feels like a home from home.
