Gate Restaurant, Bar & Club London Review

Book a table at Gate Restaurant, Bar & Club

Set deep below a cinema on the main drag of Notting Hill Gate, the Gate is a small, but quaint bar and restaurant offering simple decor, creamy colours and well-trained staff. The room is split into two areas - a short bar, backed by a pint-sized alcove, where the lighting is a bit too bright to be comfortable, and an adjacent dining area separated by glass panelling.

The gate seems quite undiscovered by the regular Notting Hill set, frequented instead by an altogether cooler and maturer crowd of well-read creative types. This is a place to come to end a night at the flics or start a night on the town. Dunc (01 01 1970)

Gate Restaurant, Bar & Club London Description

The Gate Restaurant swings into gear now it's reputation as Notting Hills hottest dining club is no longer the best kept secret in town. Designed & built by Owain George, ‘Hard & Sexy’ best describes the décor. The Sleek lines, subtle overhead lighting, and stark light boxes that line the walls along with plenty of fake wood veneers complete its trashy glamour.

In the restaurant, Head Chef Dan White-House has created a menu, which is Moreish and delectable. It has also been designed so that it is conducive for partying, drinking and socialising.

Enjoy the well selected wine list & superb cocktails at the gravity defying bar, then sojourn to the low-slung lounge which provides a secluded drinking area with a bar menu available with a choice of vegetable spring rolls, Noodle soups or homemade Dim Sum. This area is also available for private hire and a canapés menu can be ordered.

DJs play six nights a week mixing a diverse selection of music that is conducive to dining and conversation, then at 10pm, the pace picks up & the party kicks off until 2am.

“I used to go here regulary 2003/2004 and it was great. Don't know if owners/ management have changed since then but the place is now dire and best avoided. As well as drinks being extortionately over-priced, the sound system is crap. But worst of all; when I went there last week on a "punk/indie night" (according to flyer) the place was full of Hooray Henries in suits and ties. Could this by any chance be due to the fact that the pretentious maite d* was standing outside and ordering the bouncer not to let in denim-clad indie fans and supplicating instead to the suit and tie brigade? This place is best avoided. Save your time and money and go to the reliable Notting Hill Arts Club (just down the road) instead. p.s. I know that I only got in cause I was accompanied by a tart in short skirt.”

“Man, this place reminds me of my favorite place, also called the Gate back in the states. Superb international food offerings. Friendly barstaff (like Nate and Li) with an amazing drink selection. Saturday nite retro rules. Awesome place!”

“Went to the Gate last night for Dinner with friends. We were greeted as soon as we went in, and the helpful barmaid offered us a cocktail list, but she also offered to create a bespoke drink to our taste. All were superb. my gin, lime and blueberry cassis hit the spot on a hot summer night. The menu consists of tapas style international food so we chose several to share. All were home made, fresh and delicious. home made spring rolls to start would put many a chinese restaurant to shame! Foie Gras on home made bread melted in the mouth. Mini burgers and hotdogs - unusual but very tasty. All of this accompanied by reasonably priced house wine and cool tunes from the decks. All staff were knowledgable and very friendly. Add to all this you can drink into the small hours - What else could you want! Notting Hill's finest!”
