The Lawn London Description

Following his success at London landmark attractions including the National Gallery and Wallace Collection, Oliver Peyton opened The Lawn restaurant at Fulham Palace in 2008.

Owned by the Bishops of London for over 1300 years and inhabited as their country home from at least the 11th century, the Fulham Palace estate is a remarkable setting and somewhat of a hidden treasure. With stately rooms, an intriguing museum and gallery space, this regal property now benefits from an elegant and beautifully situated Peyton restaurant.

A truly genteel restaurant that recalls the space’s original role as the Bishops’ drawing room, The Lawn provides enchanting views of the palace’s extensive gardens. Open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, evening drinks and dinner, The Lawn is a restaurant for all seasons. However, during warmer months the restaurant truly comes into its own courtesy of an expansive alfresco dining terrace and state-of-the-art barbecue complete with cocktail and ice cream bar.

Evenings at The Lawn are enchanting. Be seduced by its magical surroundings and choose to while away a balmy evening lounging on the Palace’s lawns whilst sipping on a chilled glass of rose or Pimms, or take a seat and indulge in dishes, courtesy of head chef, Siaka Touray, previously of Butcher & Grill in Battersea and Harvey Nichols Fifth Floor Cafe.

The a la carte menu is characterised by its use of the grill and, in true Peyton style, carefully sourced seasonal British ingredients, prepared al fresco on the barbecue, weather permitting. Starters include Atlantic prawns, lemon, garlic and parsley; English asparagus with summer truffle butter sauce; and citrus marinated gurnard with avocado and spring onions.

For those taking their morning promenade around the Palace’s extensive grounds, The Lawn’s bountiful breakfasts feature everything from Chelsea buns and apple turnovers to traditional egg and soldiers and a smoked back bacon sandwich – all accompanied by a selection of fresh fruit smoothies and juices.

Afternoon tea at The Lawn has to be one of most quintessentially British experiences London has to offer. After a stroll through the grounds or a visit to the museum, a selection of finger sandwiches and pastries, including freshly made scones with Jersey clotted cream and Peyton and Byrne jams and loose leaf teas awaits.
