Waxy O'Connor's London Review
Waxy O'Connor's is featured in these Guides:
Just when you think you know what to expect from an Irish bar in London – Waxy O’Connor’s comes along and knocks all competition off the shelf. In fact it’s so fantastically Irish, think church themed décor complete with an actual pulpit and confession box, log fires, low ceilings and candle light that it all seemed a million miles away from Leicester Square. It’s not blarney (I couldn’t resist) but Waxy’s is a real tardis of a pub. Deliberately narrow walkways, separate enclaves of seating areas and little balconies with fantastic views of the whole place make this a far from average pub and the food did not disappoint either.
The menu unsurprisingly offers some traditional dishes such as Irish stew and mussels with soda bread but if this is not your thing then the Waxy burger served in a variety of ways is sure to suit. For £6.95 you won’t be expecting the huge clay pot that greets you at your table filled to the brim with steaming mussels but then again this is Waxy’s and nothing here is what you would expect.
With 8 rooms, 4 bars and 3 levels its safe to say that you would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t visit Waxy and find something to like. Every Monday and Tuesday night there is live music and on Sunday evenings a traditional Irish session - welcoming all musicians - brings the spirit of Irish culture to life.
If sport’s your thing then you would surely already know about this place as it boasts 3 big screens showing all the major events on the Sporting Calendar, which according to Manager Tony, never fails to pull in the crowds. If this is not enough then Waxy’s also cater for big bashes such as birthdays an office parties all in the comfort of your very own exclusive area.
Open 7 days a week, Tony was keen to point out that Waxy’s is a pub and proud of it. With so many places now trying to be both a pub and a late bar there is a sense that Waxy’s is now more of a novelty than ever before – it knows what it is and pulls it off extremely well.
This is a true gem of a place.

“i really enjoyed waxy o'connors. the music especially was very attractive as it was all the hits from the 90's - when i was a teeny bopper. it was so much fun. Even though i went on a thursday night, it was still busy with full of intersting people.
great place.”

“This is without a doubt the best bar to go to for a drink after work or as a pre-club pub or just as a not have-to-get-all-dressed-up-and-love-yourself bar! It looks like it could be a little cafe from the outside but it's HUGE and very imposing when you get in! It's beautiful inside, like a traditional pub but with lovely throne style chairs and coves to hide in (if you want to!) It's also pub prices and the staff are sound! Love it!”

“Waxy's has the best bar staff in London. You get served quicker than anywhere else the staff aren't looking in the mirror. They are very quick and attentive and the atmosphere is better than anywhere in Soho.”

“The place looks like a hole in the wall when you first walk in, but that is not the case. There are many levels with many different bars. The music played was great, but nowhere to dance. I would definately go back. If you're looking for cocktails this isn't the place.”
