This restaurant is very special. The chef cares passionately about healthy food and lifestyle. Everything, even the cheesecake and pancakes, is made from natural and nutritious ingredients. Smokers, coca-cola drinkers and meat-lovers would hate it. But for the health-conscious and dieters, and of course, vegans, among us it is ideal.
The kitchen is visible from the minimalist dining area, which, by the way, is painted with environmentally friendly paint and cleaned with natural detergent. We swap wine for juices (I have a carrot juice and my friend has a banana smoothie).
I choose a simple and delicious starter - Avocado Pomodoro – avocado with tomato sauce and vegan cream while my dining companion is more adventurous and chooses a tofu pancake. Vegans would love it, but she is not sure. Starters cost £3.25-£4.50.
The main courses are as comforting as home-cooked food but much tastier. Mine is an uncomplicated vegetable stir-fry – broccoli, sweetcorn, tofu, beans, and peppers with brown rice. A customer later orders one to take away – a great option. My friend loves the colourful chef’s salad (avocado, sun-dried tomatoes, broccoli, artichoke and asparagus). Mains cost £7.50-£10.50.
The tofu cheesecake sounds revolting, but as a cheesecake fan, I have to try it. It is so good that that I ask the delightful Ghanaian owner and chef, Ben, for the ingredients, which he is happy to share.
The £5 all-you-can-eat lunch time buffet would definitely be worth trying. Otherwise go to 222 Veggie Vegan for food you can trust to be good-for-you and delicious.
